XML And RSS Development
XML is a programming language that enables you to create dynamic content that can be displayed in your or someone else’s website usually in RSS format. As I am sure you are already familiar with RSS feeds, this is also a terrific way to get information out there among the Internet.
With XML, you can also create sitemaps that enable search engines like Google to crawl your sites more efficiently and on a regular basis in order to determine whether any content has recently been updated. Google even has a special place where webmasters can add their sitemaps so that it can do this as a regularly performed operation.
Adding feeds from your site to various websites that list these feeds is also an added plus for anyone wishing to make their site’s information available to the public as well. Many web developers will even recommend this as an added bonus, however most developers sell you out by simply creating a single XML sitemap that does not interact with your own website in order to list content changes automatically. Various content management systems have this capability built in but as I have mentioned in my other article about Custom CMS, these content management systems are not always a useful option.
Much other webmasters make use of feeds like yours in order to keep their own visitors informed of useful information. I have done this same thing on my own site as you will notice from the links in the bottom left hand side of this page. As you will see, the links provide additional information that is fed from various websites with webmaster related content. You might also want to check some of those out because they also provide visitors like you with helpful content that you maybe looking for when trying to get a new website off the ground.
The great thing about using feeds in your own
site or offering feeds for other people to use is that they update
automatically. This means that you can create several pages of
XML and RSS fed information for your visitors that will update
themselves on a regular basis so that you do not have to keep
your site updated manually. This is more useful if you have sites
similar to mine where content rarely needs updated, However, it
is much more useful to your SEO undertaking to update your site
with fresh new content whenever possible.
